Round Table: AI – Should We Stop or Accelerate Its Development?

blog image

Will artificial intelligence destroy us? Or will it free us from meaningless tasks? Will we as humans regress if we support its development? Or will those who fail to take advantage of new technologies fall behind? How can we ensure the right balance?

Answers will be offered at the Researchers’ Night and the

round table “Artificial Intelligence: should we stop or accelerate its development?” ,

on Friday, September 29, 2023, from 6 PM to 8 PM, in Lecture Hall 1,

at the Faculty of Computer and Information Science, University of Ljubljana (UL FRI) ,

Večna pot 113, Ljubljana,

where methods of artificial intelligence and machine learning have been developed for decades.

Speakers will present their work, explain how artificial intelligence (AI) actually works, and discuss both the opportunities for its use and concerns about potential misuse:

  • Academician Prof. Dr. Ivan Bratko , UL FRI, founder of AI research in Slovenia and a pioneer at the global level,
  • Prof. Dr. Blaž Zupan , UL FRI, head of the group developing the Orange software and introducing AI education in Slovenian schools ,
  • Prof. Dr. Marko Robnik Šikonja , UL FRI, expert in AI applications in language technologies and development of large language models for the Slovenian language,
  • Prof. Dr. Danijel Skočaj , UL FRI, expert in AI applications in computer vision and automated cognitive systems in industry,
  • Prof. Dr. Olga Markič , UL FF, professor of cognitive science,
  • Prof. Dr. Aleš Završnik , Institute of Criminology at UL Faculty of Law, expert in legal and ethical aspects of AI use.

The discussion will be moderated by Nina Slaček , a well-known science journalist.

Take advantage of Researchers’ Night, visit the Faculty of Computer and Information Science, and meet the researchers and educators who are at the heart of AI development and education in Slovenia!

You are welcome!
