Welcome to A.I. Lab
The exhibition Origin of the Future is on display at Kresija Gallery (in the immediate vicinity of Triple Bridge in Ljubljana), offering an in-depth insight into five decades of artificial intelligence development in Slovenia and revealing the country’s rich tradition of knowledge in this field. The exhibition will be open from April 3 to May 3, 2026.
The exhibition presents a historical narrative about the beginnings of artificial intelligence, which today permeates all aspects of social existence, interwoven with memories and video testimonies of the pioneers of Slovenian artificial intelligence, Ivan Bratko, Nada Lavrač, Franc Solina, Igor Kononenko and others. Several rare exhibits and visualizations are also on display.
Several milestones in the development of artificial intelligence are presented, from Ivan Bratko’s collaboration with Donald Michie and the organization of the 5th World Computer Congress in Ljubljana in 1971, to Bratko’s Prolog programming book and pioneering research into diagnosing heart rhythm disorders, and later Franc Solina’s introduction of superquadrics in the field of computer vision, as well as the development of the Orange tool for machine learning, data mining, and visualization.

At the opening on April 3, 2026, the attendees were addressed by the honorary patron of the exhibition , the President of the Republic, Nataša Pirc Musar , who among other things said: “/…/ at its core, artificial intelligence is not merely algorithms and code. Behind every breakthrough stand people – researchers and pioneers who dared to think about the unimaginable at a time when computing power was only a fraction of what it is today. Among us today is also Academician Dr. Ivan Bratko, one of the key pillars of artificial intelligence in Slovenia, whose work is highly regarded and recognized internationally.”

At the conclusion of her speech, the President announced that she would award Acad. Prof. Dr. Ivan Bratko the Golden Order of Merit for his pioneering work in the research and development of artificial intelligence in Slovenia and abroad. He will receive the decoration as part of the President’s forum on the challenges of artificial intelligence, which will take place on May 7, 2026, at Brdo.
