Reactions to the President’s Forum on Artificial Intelligence

At the President’s Forum on Artificial Intelligence, held on May 7, 2026, experts from various fields discussed the state of artificial intelligence (AI) in Slovenia and around the world, the potential for its implementation in the economy and other social systems, as well as legal, social, and ethical aspects and the lack of education about AI and computer science in general.





The event was

attended by many experts from the Faculty of Computer and Information Science

. Important roles in the panel discussion were played by Prof. Dr. Danijel Skočaj, Prof. Dr. Blaž Zupan, Prof. Dr. Marko Robnik Šikonja, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Andrej Brodnik, and especially the special rapporteur Assist. Prof. Dr. Vida Groznik, who coordinated the entire forum program content-wise.

Forum Recommendations

At the conclusion of the event, the special rapporteur Assist. Prof. Dr. Vida Groznik

summarized the discussion and presented the recommendations

Recommendations from the 1st panel on leveraging the potential of AI:

  • Focus on niches where we are strong.
  • Use small size as an advantage.
  • Ensure competitive conditions for talent.
  • Ensure the financial stability of the system.
  • Act strategically, not project-based.

Recommendations from the 2nd panel on progress, safeguards, and responsibilities:

  • More active international presence.
  • Regulation as support, not an obstacle.
  • Prepare for the transformation of work.
  • Transparency, traceability, and trust.
  • Effective legal remedies related to human rights violations.

Recommendations from the 3rd panel on education:

  • Introduction of systematic teaching of computer science and data literacy.
  • Preparation of a national framework for the responsible use of generative AI in education.
  • Large-scale and systematic teacher training.
  • Modernization of university programs.
  • Communication with the public.
