Academician Prof. Dr. Ivan Bratko Receives the Golden Order of Merit

On the occasion of the 6th President’s Forum on Artificial Intelligence, the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar, presented the state decoration Golden Order of Merit to Prof. Dr. Ivan Bratko for his exceptional contributions to the establishment and development of artificial intelligence in Slovenia, for his pioneering contributions to the development of machine learning and logic programming, and for his lasting impact on the international recognition of Slovenian science.

Prof. Dr. Ivan Bratko is regarded as the founder of artificial intelligence in Slovenia and one of the country’s most important scientists in this field. Through his research and teaching work, he has significantly contributed since the 1970s to the development of artificial intelligence internationally and laid the foundations for a research tradition that permanently positioned Slovenia among the recognized countries in this field.

During the presentation of the decoration, the President of the Republic emphasized that Prof. Dr. Ivan Bratko, through his pioneering work, scientific vision, and dedication to research, decisively shaped the development of artificial intelligence in Slovenia and significantly contributed to the international reputation of Slovenian science. She also highlighted his lasting influence on generations of researchers and on the development of a research environment in which artificial intelligence today represents one of the most successful and internationally recognized fields of Slovenian science.
