The European Summer School on Artificial Intelligence is beginning at the Faculty of Computer and Information Science, University of Ljubljana, hosting 60 renowned domestic and international experts and over 500 participants from 42 countries. The conference will also pay special attention to the use of artificial intelligence in science.
The Slovenian Artificial Intelligence Society (SLAIS), in collaboration with the University of Ljubljana, the Jožef Stefan Institute, and the University of Primorska, is hosting the first edition of the European Summer School on Artificial Intelligence (ESSAI & ACAI), which will take place from July 24 to July 28, 2023, at the Faculty of Computer and Information Science, University of Ljubljana. ESSAI & ACAI 2023 will be held under the honorary patronage of the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr. Nataša Pirc Musar.
The school will be organized under the auspices of the European Association for Artificial Intelligence (EurAI) and aims to become a central hub for students, researchers, and professionals to discuss current research and exchange knowledge in the field of artificial intelligence. This year’s summer school will feature 36 different courses and lectures on a wide range of AI topics, delivered by leading experts from institutions such as Stanford, Yale, Washington, Oxford, Cambridge, KU Leuven, TU Darmstadt, Sapienza University of Rome, CNRS in France, as well as companies like Google DeepMind,
Microsoft, and VMware Research. Currently, more than 500 participants from across Europe, North and Latin America, and Asia have registered for ESSAI & ACAI 2023, with applications still open for remote participants who wish to attend the courses and lectures online. In addition to the lectures, two roundtables will be held: the first on “Artificial Intelligence and Society” and the second on “Artificial Intelligence for Science.”
Slovenia has a very active AI community, comprising both academic researchers and industry experts. The ESSAI & ACAI 2023 will provide an opportunity for this community to meet with leading scientists from around the world and young professionals who have been involved with this increasingly attractive field for only a few years but will undoubtedly be heard from in the future. ESSAI & ACAI 2023 could have a significant impact on the development of artificial intelligence in Slovenia, as such events facilitate new
connections within the local scientific community and industry, which serve as a basis for future collaboration with and among participants. Moreover, ESSAI & ACAI will draw international attention to Slovenian science and industry, bringing numerous opportunities for collaboration and development.
The opening event will take place on Monday, July 24, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. in the main lecture hall of the Faculty of Computer and Information Science, University of Ljubljana. At the opening ceremony, the participants of ESSAI & ACAI 2023 will be addressed by the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr. Nataša Pirc Musar. Alongside the summer school, two roundtables will be held: one titled “Artificial Intelligence for Science” and the other “Artificial Intelligence for Society.” The latter, on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at 6:00 p.m., will also feature Dr. Nataša Pirc Musar as a speaker.
