FRI Piškot: Jure Žabkar – Without Inverse Kinematics, No Cookie

blog image

On the table, there’s a cookie. How do we calculate the angles at which we must move our arm and finger joints to pick it up and bring it to our mouth? How does a robot do this?

Inverse kinematics is the mapping from the external world to the robot’s internal coordinate system of motors/joints. Without it, a robot cannot function. Since an analytical solution only exists in rare and simple cases, we compute inverse kinematics using numerical methods.

Come for your cookie and you will see that even a robot – just like us – can master inverse kinematics without any calculations.

You are invited to Piškot on Thursday, February 26th, at 2:15 PM in P22.
